FAQ: Why is my stain going on like this?

FAQ: Why is my stain going on like this?

A: When you apply the stain you need to brush it on in in the following way

  • Allow the stain you have on now to dry over night
  • Put another coat of Retique It® Liquid Wood over it.
  • Paint on a thick layer from end to end about a foot wide at a time, allowing the stain to absorb to long enough to your desired darkness. For Varathane®, about 30 seconds is the usual.
  • Then pull the stain off lightly using long even strokes from end to end. This will make the stain variations go from end to end.
  • .You may wish to do this on a test piece first

    A. Second Option, Use a Gel Stain

    • Allow the stain you have on now to dry over night
    • Put another coat of Retique It® Liquid Wood over it.
    • Use a gel stain because it allows you to manipulate it more. We only suggest this if you have used it before and found it to be easier.
